MELASMA PEEL
MELASMA PEEL
Melasma is a skin condition that turns skin light brown, dark brown or grey and is caused by the melanin (skins tanning chemical) overproducing in a certain area of skin. It is described as “splotchy patches” on the forehead, cheeks, upper lip, or jaw line that is triggered by hormones and light.

WHAT CAUSES MELASMA?
Hormones stimulate the growth of cells that make brown pigment (melanocytes). And natural light stimulates the production of even more brown pigment (melanin). Estrogens in oral contraceptives and hormone replacement therapy can also do this. So, you have two problems: too many cells making brown pigment and light constantly stimulating them.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF MELASMA PEEL?
Melasma Peel at True Med Spa in Scottsdale effectively treats pigmentations that are caused by hormonal imbalances after pregnancy, birth control pills or other hormonal medications. Over the course of treatment, this peel promotes brightening, lightening, and correcting the pigmentation by suppressing melanocytes, which are the cells that produce melanin and reversing the pigmentations caused by hyperactive melanocytes.
The Melasma Peel is similar in function to a chemical or alpha hydroxy peel but is formulated specifically to treat the dark patches caused by pigmentation problems. This peel is performed by an aesthetician who has experience in performing the peel.
HOW IS MELASMA PEEL PERFORMED?
Melasma Peel has three-phases where the peel is applied to the skin and is then washed off at home after the mask is worn for several hours. Once the mask is removed, a secondary cream is applied to protect new skin growth. This peel differs from other skin brightening products and chemical peels in its ingredients, which are designed to treat the specific symptoms of Melasma.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT AFTER TRUE MELASMA PEEL?
The Melasma peel will cause noticeable peeling and redness in the first 3 to 5 days. We recommend beginning your treatment near the end of the week so the major peeling is experienced over the weekend when you will not be in school or at work. You MUST protect your skin from sun exposure to get the full benefits of this program. A full spectrum sunblock will maximize your treatment success and help prevent pigmentation return.
